Korean - English Terminology

English meaning
(Words are hyphenated to show syllables)

Basics:

Jun-bi Ready (also used as 'ready' stance for some patterns)
Cha-ryot Attention, meaning to stand with toes and heels together, hands at side of body
Kyung-ye Means to bow (look to floor when bowing to flag, otherwise at partner or instructor)
Do The way something is done, the art or method
Dee Belt
Do-bok Art clothes, (The TaeKwon-Do uniform, often called a Ghee in Karate)
Do-jang Art hall, the area in which we study and train. (Also called a Do-Jo in Karate)
Go-man To stop, finish or end
Jireu-gi A strike, typically referred to a punch, also a punching excercise
Ki-hap A loud shout or yell to help concentrate energy and premote proper breathing
Hyung A pattern, a series of consecutive techniques for simulated attacks and defences eg 'Chun-ji Hyung'
Shi-Juk To start or to begin
TaeKwon-Do Foot (kicking, stomping)-fist (punching, smashing) -art or way

Kicks:

Cha-gi General term for a kick
Ap Cha-gi - Front kick
Yop Cha-gi Side kick
Dol-lyo Cha-gi Turning kick, also Dola

Counting:

Ha-na 1
Dul 2
Set 3
Net 4
Da-seot 5
Yeo-seot 6
Il-gop 7
Yeo-deol 8
A-hop 9
Yeol 10

Chon-Gi 1st pattern for Yellow Stripe
