4 Direction Block & Punch

This is the first series of techniques that teaches the new student foot work and arm leg coordination. There are four variations of this pattern.

All variations are similar in that only a single leg moves (steps) and the other stays in one spot and pivots.

Techniques you will need to know for these patterns:

  • Ready stance

  • Walking punch

  • Low block

  • Side Block

Right Punch Left Low Block

  1. Begin in a Ready Stance.

  2. Raise your left arm up and bring your right fist to your hip.

  3. Step forward with your right leg and execute a right walking punch.

  4. Bring your right foot back toward your left and place your left arm on top of your right. (Arms go back to back)

  5. With your right leg, step out and to your right side while turning to your left 1/4 turn forming a walking stance.

  6. Drop your left arm down in front of you to form a low section block.

  7. repeat from step 2 until you are facing the staring direction.

  8. Kihap (yell) on the last block.

  9. Step up slowly.

Left Punch Right Low Block

  2. Extend your left arm out in front of you and bring your right fist to your hip.

TIP
These techniques set the basis for all patterns to come. Be sure that stances are accurate. Students must put a lot of effort into each move. Practice both directions equally

Parent TIP
Do not allow kids to just run through moves, have then practice at the same speed as the videos.
